As I celebrate another birthday, I’m thankful for each and every experience that brought me to this day—and for all the days that I have yet to live.
But more than anything, I’m graciously grateful for this awareness:
Although my physical body may become "less young" as the birthdays go by, my spirit never ages—because it was never born.
Although my physical body may become "less young" as the birthdays go by, my spirit never ages—because it was never born.
I’m lovingly thankful for my ageless spirit.
My peaceful place.
My safe embrace.
My saving grace.
And on every birthday, I vow to live more in reverence each day for this one beautiful life that I have been gifted and blessed with.
Birthdays are a time to reflect on where we are in our lives, and oftentimes we wonder if we should be in a different place on our paths than we currently are—much further along the way.
Should I have written more books?
Should I have helped more people?
Should I have made more money?
Should I have done a lot more—by now?
But when we appreciate where we are and we keep ourselves open, signs and messages appear that remind us that we are exactly where we’re supposed to be in our lives.
Working as a part-time substitute school teacher, I’m constantly being reminded that I am where I’m supposed to be on my path. Especially when I receive precious notes like these:
We’re all here together on this big bouncing ball to help each other along the way. With a smile, with a touch, with a gesture, with a kind word. We just never know how the things we do or say will impact another. As long as we act with kindness and love, and remember that we are all being divinely guided, we can never get it wrong. And like I say in my book Weight Loss:The Screenplay—"While your ego is always trying to find it's place in the world, your true self knows that your place is always right here, right now."
"While your ego is always trying to find it's place in the world, your true self knows that your place is always right here, right now."
I don’t know about you, but I plan to live for at least 100 years. This song by Five for Fighting is one of my favorites. It reminds us that as the years pass, no matter how old we are, whatever it is we're experiencing in our lives is always happening in the present moment—and our spirits never age.
Happy birthday to me!
(Written on my birthday, February 26th.)
100 Years
by Five for Fighting
I'm fifteen for a moment
Caught in between ten and twenty
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I'm twenty-two for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars
Fifteen there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
Fifteen, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live
I'm thirty-three for a moment
Still the man, but you see I'm a “they”
A kid on the way
A family on my mind
I'm forty-five for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life
Fifteen there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
Fifteen I'm all right with you
Fifteen, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live
Half-time goes by
Suddenly you're wise
Another blink of an eye
Sixty-seven is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on
I'm ninety-nine for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
Fifteen there's still time for you
Twenty-two I feel her too
Thirty-three you're on your way
Every day's a new day
Fifteen there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey fifteen, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live
